Seniors Gilbert Print Plate KO

This week saw the quarter finals of the County Knock Out Gilbert Print Plate.  Our Seniors welcomed Haywards Heath for our first home fixture for a very long time. Course conditions had changed dramatically since a week ago and the day also brought strong gusty winds.

Haywards Heath brought a strong team but pairings were evenly matched with no more than 1 shot being given or received.  Given the conditions both sides played very well and most games come down to the putts that dropped or not.

Brian Cairns & Tony Isaacs led off and prevailed after 15 holes winning 4&3 when Tony sank a 20 foot putt.  Following this David Snell & Graham Billinghurst also concluded their game at the 15th with another 4&3 win. Things were looking good with only one half needed from two games. Paul Gilbody and David Robinson had a very close game and had been in front but Haywards Heath conjured up a strong fight back and won the game at the 18th so it was down to the last game where Wayne Short & Andy Teversham had got off to a slow start, at one time being 4 down.  Wayne & Andy were defending their unbeaten record in these competitions and as expected fought back as the game wore on but could not quite overcome the Haywards Heath pair, losing at the 18th.

David Snell & Graham Billinghurst went out for the sudden death extra holes and much to the delight of the assembled support won at the second extra hole.  We are now drawn to play Royal Eastbourne at The Dyke on the 20th August in the semi finals.  Support from the members is more than welcome.
