Slinfold Golf & Country Club

Seniors Gilbert Print Plate (SGU)

The Seniors County Knock Out, ‘Gilbert Print Plate’, semi-finals were played this week when we were drawn against Royal Eastbourne GC at The Dyke GC.  Weather was hot and the breeze was quite welcome.

The team were led off by Brian Cairns & Ian Massberry, then David Snell & Mike Lowery, David Robinson & Paul Gilbody with Wayne Short & Andy Teversham in the anchor match. Slinfold were conceding 1 shot in 3 matches and 2 shots in the last.  Things got off to a good start with three matches being 2 up after 3 Holes and the other being 1 down. The match situation didn’t change dramatically  with just the odd Hole being won or lost but Royal  Eastbourne didn’t panic and stayed in the match into the back nine.   The first match was lost at the 17th, the second match being lost at the 18th and with the third  match being lost at the 15th . The last match, where Wayne & Andy were never headed, culminated in a win at the 16th where Andy holed out from the greenside bunker to halve the hole against a shot given. Eastbourne conceded the 17th leaving Wayne & Andy to win 3 and 1 and maintain the pair’s record in these matches only losing once in the last 3 seasons.

Wayne & Andy prepare to put at the 5th.

We had high hopes of going one better than last year when we were beaten in the final but it was not to be.  Maybe next year !     Team manager Frank Catlow thanked the team for their efforts and those who had supported the team at the various matches through the year which was more than welcome and much appreciated.
