Slinfold Golf Seniors
This week saw the Finals Day when four of the five Seniors Summer Finals were all played in great weather conditions. Congratulations to all those taking part, the members who came out to support after playing the normal competition and particularly to those who gave up their time and took responsibility for Refereeing the matches. Referee’s match reports are as follows:
Stuart Sharman Salver
"A lovely match played by two competitive seniors. I like to call it the pendulum contest. The front nine shows Steve O'Carroll 3 up after 3 holes; Neil Hallet pulling back to all square in the next 3 holes; Steve getting the next 3 to go 3 up at the turn. Nip and tuck over 10 to 14 with Steve eventually taking the 16th to win 4 and 2. Not one hole halved! A wonderful match played in a lovely spirit. Good stuff, a pleasure to referee."

Seniors Scratch KnockOut Div 2
The Div2 final was played on the Seniors Finals Day on Tuesday 19th September. Kevin Watson and Alan Hellier met in the first final of this new event.
After a halved first hole , Kevin playing very steady golf raced to a 6 up lead at the turn. Alan's par at the tenth cut the deficit but Kevin kept the pressure on and won 6/5 on the 13th.
The finalists both said they enjoyed the scratch format and look forward to next year’s event when we hope even more players will sign up.

Seniors Collins Matchplay
A lovely day on a damp but drying course set the backdrop for this, the final of the Collins Knock Out Match Play. The combatants, David Robertson and Kevin Crump, served up a close and fascinating encounter in which the margin was never more than two holes and in which, at different times, the short game of both players came to the fore.
David established a two hole advantage after the 3rd and maintained a lead for the bulk of the match until Kevin, conceding ten shots, drew level on the 14th green. Kevin’s par on the 15th was good enough to take the lead for the first time following a visit to the greenside bunker by David. The 16th was halved in three and so Kevin walked down the 17thfairway one up, but conceding shots at both the two finishing holes. A pair of fives at the 17th enabled David to draw level and the players scrapped out the 18th in untypical fashion, each making a seven, which was enough for David to take the honours.

Seniors Summer Greensomes
Freddy Lane and Mike Lowery completed the double in winning the Summer Greensomes to match their win earlier in the year in the Winter Foursomes by beating Stephen Barrington and Peter Carruthers.
The match was nip and tuck for much of the game with Stephen and Peter making the best of their shot holes and with only 2 holes being halved but, in the end, Freddy and Mike's steady play and solid putting saw them run out winners at 4 & 2.
